Retired Members Committee

Statement of Purpose

The IAASE Retired Members Committee will serve in an advisory capacity that honors the experience and knowledge of special education administration and student services, the relationship to CASE, to ISBE, and other relevant issues to the elected officers of IAASE and the Executive Board.

Function and Tasks of the Retired Members Committee


  • The Retired Members Committee will promote the involvement of retired IAASE members in organizational activities, functions and business of IAASE.

  • The Retired Members Committee will provide input to the IAASE Executive Board through the Chairperson(s) on IAASE issues pertaining to retired Members.

  • The Retired Members Committee will research requests from the IAASE Executive Board for historical perspective, advice, and input on IAASE issues and questions of importance to the Members.

  • The Retired Members Committee shall collaborate as appropriate with any IAASE Committee as requested by the Executive Board or the Retired Member Committee Chairperson(s).

  • The IAASE President will recommend the approval of the Retired Members Committee Chairperson(s) from a membership list of current retired Members.

  • Terms of the Retired Members Chairperson(s) shall be for two (2) years and their appointment aligned with the term and recommendation of each new IAASE President.

  • Chairperson(s) may be reappointed for successive two (2) year terms. Chairperson(s) who leave the position prior to the end of the two (2) years shall be replaced to fulfill the remaining portion of the two (2) year term.

  • The Retired Members Chairperson(s) shall be a voting Member of the IAASE Executive Board.

  • The Retired Members Chairperson(s) will appoint retired Members in good standing to participate on the Committee. The Committee Chairperson(s) may add Members at any time and the term will be consistent with the term of each IAASE President.


Retired Committee Members


  • The Retired Members Committee will consist of a minimum of three (3) retired Members.

  • The Retired Committee Members will be selected based on the diversity of the IAASE membership including, the IAASE regions, experience, gender and racial background.

  • The Retired Committee Members terms shall be for two (2) years and their appointment aligned with the term of each new IAASE Retired Member Committee Chairperson(s). The Retired Members Committee Members may be reappointed to successive two (2) year terms. The Committee Member who leaves the position prior to the end of two (2) years shall be replaced to fulfill the remaining portion of the two (2) year term.
