This academy will address student behavior challenges by providing administrators with a proactive framework for managing significant behavioral issues. We will explore three key areas: 1) Prevention: Building a Strong Foundation. Through Prevention, participants will review approaches to positive school climate structures (SEL programs, positive behavior frameworks, etc.), explore early intervention strategies by identifying early warning signs and Tier 1 support implementation, and examine continuous professional learning opportunities for staff. 2) Crisis Management: Responding Effectively: This will support the participants’ current and future safety plans, including clear protocols for implementation, evaluating function-based interventions, and supporting staff through trauma-informed approaches. 3) Post-Crisis Support: Learning and Moving Forward: Through Post-Crisis Support, participants will review data sources that measure challenging behaviors, evaluate the effectiveness of their behavior management programming/crisis protocols, and steps for ongoing student and staff support. Emphasis will be on prevention and responding to behavior episodes consistently and with a function-based approach. In addition to identifying training opportunities to equip staff with the skills to recognize and respond effectively to crises at varying levels through a professional learning plan, participants will develop practical resources to support their staff’s de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention plans, trauma-informed care, positive behavior supports, and communication protocols.
Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
